Trail run Camp with Tbilisi running club

I’m not sure if this was the first-ever trail running camp in Gudauri, but it was certainly the first time the Tbilisi Running Club visited us for trail-running training.

Together, we organized a two-day camp in Gudauri. Our goal was to design routes for both long-distance trail enthusiasts seeking significant elevation gains, and those looking for something shorter and faster.

Gudauri is the perfect setting for both types of runs. The valley is home to three peaks: Kudebi, Bidara, and Sadzeli, all of which are technically easy to climb, safe, and within walking distance of the house—no need for transfers or long approaches.

As for the route, we started from the chalet toward Cross Pass along a technical service road used for maintaining the electrical networks. We then ascended the Bidara ridge. From there, runners could either begin the descent back toward Gudauri or continue to the mountain's summit. After that, we descended into the valley, followed by a long traverse and climb to the top of Sadzeli. The route finished with a descent back to the valley and a final climb to Mt. Kudebi.

Afterward, we cooled off with a swim in the lake near the gondola and headed home for a lamb BBQ.

For those who didn’t want to tackle all three peaks, the route ended at the lake after Bidara. Luckily, the weather was perfect for it.
On the second day, we had planned a more challenging route, but dense thickets near the final climb led us to postpone it. Instead, we climbed Deda Ena. Although it wasn’t a traditional running route, the climb and effort put into the ascent were a great complement to the training.

Unlike Sadzeli or Kudebi, Deda Ena isn’t just a hill you can walk up. It offers a mini rock climbing adventure, making the experience unforgettable.
The first day's route: Gudauri - Cross Pass - Bidarya - Sadzeli - Kudebi - BBQ in Moutain Cricket Chalet.
Elevation gain ~1794m for 24 km. The highest point is 3284 above sea level, Sadzeli volcano.
Infrastructure: all that Gudauri can offer

The second day's route: Gudauri - Cross Pass - Deda Ena v. - Gudauri. Departure home
Elevation gain
Infrastructure: only in Gudauri

The difficulty for both days, if you invest in full-fledged routes, is relatively high.

We are ready to organize this or a similar trail running, hiking, or adventure camp upon request. If you're an organizer of such events, feel free to contact us to plan your next adventure.
